Introduction

There are times when you may need to provide learners with unique testing arrangements. This could include:

  • An extension of time to complete an activity;
  • Allowing additional opportunities to submit or resubmit an assessment; or
  • Create specific time frames for individuals to have access to and be able to complete an assessment.

An exception includes additional attempts or extended access, even if the assessment is hidden from other students. An exception overrides the settings applied to everyone else for only that specific assessment.

The options include:

Due Date: Use this to assign a due date specific to that learner.

Show On/Hide After Dates: Use these to make the activity only available to a specific learner and not the class as a whole.

Attempts Allowed: Use this to allow additional attempts to a specific learner and not the class as a whole.

To start:

  1. From the course content area, open the appropriate assessment.
  2. Head over to the top right corner of the page and select the “submissions” button.
  3. Locate the appropriate student name and head to the “***” on the far-right side of the row and click it.
  4. Next, select “Add or edit exceptions”.
  5. A panel will slide open where the appropriate exceptions can be selected for the student.
  6. You will see at the top a due date/calendar icon can be edited for the student, a show and hide after window can be set for the student, and under these, you will find where you can adjust the number of assessment attempts the student can have.

Students with exceptions appear with an icon next to their names within the submissions page for this particular assessment.
