Important update for Summer 2024 courses:
Final grades are due to be entered in Banner on Wednesday, August 21, 2024.
For further information about grade entry, please contact Brad.Delion@georgiancollege.ca.
Introduction
Before you begin entering grades.
It is your responsibility to ensure that your grades are accurately calculated and entered. Before entering final grades into Banner, you must review your Gradebook in Blackboard to confirm there are no errors in the calculations. This step is important to minimize any chance of error which can result in student appeals, grade changes or miscalculation of academic standing, to name a few.
Entering your final grades.
Final grades are due by the date listed at the top of this article. It is important that you meet this deadline, so students receive their results on time. A delay in final grade entry can prevent a student’s next step such as planning for a future semester, graduation, attending convocation or receiving a job offer.
Instructions
Below are a few reminders for you as the semester comes to an end. Below is a quick reference sheet that walks through the process of entering grades in Banner web.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do grades “roll”?
We will roll grades at 4pm on the deadline and again each day for the following couple of weeks.
What do you mean when you say “roll” the grades?
Rolling grades is a series of processes that the Office of the Registrar executes. It locks the grade (so faculty can no longer make grade changes) and makes them available for the students to access. Students cannot see grades that have not yet been rolled.
What do I do if I don’t have a final grade for a student yet?
If you have provided an extension but will have the final grade within 30 days or so (or by the end of the following month)
Leave the grade in Banner BLANK. This will allow you to enter the grade yourself when you do have it. The Blackboard shell will remain open while there is a blank grade.
If the student needs more than 30 days to complete the course
Enter a grade of ‘IN’ and submit a Course Completion Contract (found on the web Faculty Guide (sharepoint.com)) indicating when you will have the grade entered. The maximum length of time allowed for an extension is 4 months (for summer courses this would be at the end of December.) The Blackboard shell will remain open while there is an IN grade.
What if I have a student on my list that has never attended my class (or stopped attending)?
Enter the grade they have earned. If they did nothing, give them a 0. If they earned a 12, give them a 12. Do not leave these final grades blank or provide an IN. This will cause other issues.
What if I entered a student’s grade wrong?
You will need to complete a grade change form online in the IT Service portal. It is your responsibility to enter an accurate final grade.
What is the impact of a missing or IN grade to a student moving forward?
Blank and IN grades are considered the same from a system standpoint and could impact a student’s academic standing (they could be suspended – or not suspended – in error due to a missing or IN grade). Missing or IN grades will also prevent a student from progressing to a course that requires the previous one as a pre-requisite. Students must have successfully completed the pre-requisite course and have a passing grade entered prior to the end of the add/drop period of the following semester (i.e. summer) or they are not eligible to take the subsequent course.
