Introduction
Turnitin is a useful tool for assessing academic integrity in your course. When an assignment is created using Turnitin, a new assessment link to the Gradebook will be created. Instructors can view and grade assignments directly through the Turnitin LTI. However, there are some limitations when it comes to grading assignments through Turnitin's Feedback Studio.
Explanation
Sometimes, when grading a student submission, instructors will find that a fractional grade is required. Unfortunately, at this time, Turnitin's Feedback Studio will only allow for whole numbers to be entered as a grade. This mark will be shown in the gradebook.
It is good practice to perform the whole number grading step first and then make a note that you wish to add a fractional grade after the fact. Once you have completed this step, follow the “Process” steps below to alter the whole number grade.
Process
- Open the gradebook and locate the assignment and student.
- The matrix view of your gradebook is the quickest way to locate the student and the assignment.
- This is not the only way to locate the grade for the student. You may find an alternate view that will show you the student grade and allow edits.
- Once you have found the grade, click on the number (this should be the same number you entered in the Feedback Studio).
- The box will become editable and prompt you to enter a new grade number.
- Write in the grade that you wish to give the student. Blackboard Ultra will show up to two decimal places of fractional grading.
- Click on a blank area of the screen or hit enter to register the override. An override designation may appear for this grade.
The grade for the student will now be saved with the percentage of a whole point.
