We are chatting about and celebrating faculty roles at Georgian
Did you know?
Did you know that the Centre for Teaching and Learning, with the input from amazing peers at Georgian, has created a competency framework for faculty?
This framework identifies and celebrates the roles we weave into our practice every day. The framework launched last year. You can read about it on page 15 of the Academic Plan.
What's it look like?
How do these roles relate to teaching?
We design our courses so that our assessments, and teaching and learning activities align with our outcomes and engage our students.
We research in our fields and in teaching to be current and authentic.
We practice inclusiveness to cultivate our learning spaces so students feel they belong.
We change lives every day by helping graduate students who not only are great at their professions but also positively impact their communities.
We navigate digital technologies to help support digital literacy.
We collaborate regularly with peers to grow our practice.
We reflect on what we've done and make changes to improve.
We mentor peers and positively impact the teaching and learning ecosystem.
Check out the Competency Framework Descriptors document and explore synergies with your experience.
Why have we built this framework?
The goals of the Innovative GC Faculty Competency Framework include the following:
Offer all Georgian Faculty access to competency-based micro-credentials and professional learning opportunities that align with key Georgian priorities and excellent teaching and learning practice
Activate a model that celebrates faculty as they move from emerging skills to transformative teaching
Promote continual engagement with clearly mapped, scaffolded, professional development pathways and journey markers where faculty can easily make professional learning decisions
Clearly share with the college community what the role of faculty entails when teaching at Georgian
