Introduction

The most recent update brought with it the ability for instructors to layout course content in a more attractive manner that also makes greater use of the screen space available. This includes the ability to arrange content into up to four columns.

An unexpected result was that the maximum width of the content area increased from approximately 800 to 1200 pixels. When we originally created the banner images and templates, we used 800 as the width. While there is nothing inherently wrong with these images, the latest update has resulted in banner images looking too small for the space available.

What to do now

In response to this change, faculty have the following options:

  • Leave the images as they are;
  • Manually resize each image within the course;
  • Download the updated versions (1200x75pixels) of the images and manually replace each image one by one; or
  • Use the templates available to create customized banner images in Canva.

The BbUltra Templates

  • Providing a brief visual break from content in a document
  • Announcements
  • Footers at the end of content

Content Square Template (400x400 pixels):

Access the 400x400 template by clicking here.

These are square and designed to be the width of half of the available space in Blackboard.
Good for:

  • Tables that include images in column one and text in column two

Course Banner Template (1200x240 pixels):

Access the 1200x240 template by clicking here.

These are larger images that are designed to span the width of most computer screens.
Good for:
